I’m sure some of you will have read the recent article in one of our more melodramatic tabloids on how cracked heels can let a nasty form of bacteria into your body called cellulitis which can lead to serious illness and, in the worst case scenario, death.
Whilst we are not running around proclaiming that cracked heels could kill you, we did think we’d take the opportunity to advocate looking after your precious and much abused feet, especially those poor old heels that can look a bit like drought stricken land in Australia if you don’t spend some time on them. And winter is the ideal time to pamper your tootsies – 6 months of socks does not give you an excuse to ignore them, but the opportunity to spend time moisturising, soaking and revitalising them.
Ideally looking after your hard working heels involves:
1. A foot file – fabulous things, that can be used to slough off dried skin. A bit like sanding down wood, filing your feet is immensely satisfying as you wish all that flaky skin coming off.
2. Moisturise! Every night (no excuses!) cover those feet (all of them) in a lovely, thick specialised foot cream (we recommend the Burt’s Bees range of foot creams – Honey and Bilberry or Coconut – they’re the biz!)
3. Pull some socks on – any nice pair of clean, cotton socks will do. Leave them all all night, and your feet will soon be as smooth and soft as liquid silk.
If you stick to this regime religiously throughout the winter (and summer when that comes – if it comes), then you will be ready for summer party heels and holiday sandals come next year – and of course for Christmas sparkly shoes!
